Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto to do something before the economy collapses.
In an interview with Citizen TV on Monday, Wanyonyi said that the issue of the collapse of companies in the country should not be taken lightly.
He argued that there are several firms that have shut down because the government is not providing an ideal environment for them.
He also asked the government to address the issue of corruption. Team noted that there are many projects that have stalled because of massive losses of resources meant for the same. He wondered why Uhuru has remain mum on the collapse of these firms.
“We need all Kenyans involved in running the economy, not just a select few We have seen companies collapsing yet the government is silent. Government has the machinery to address corruption issues,” he said.
The remarks come two weeks after a Senate committee raised concern over the increased job losses in the country.
Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala revealed that more than 1400 Kenyans are now jobless after closure of the firms they were working at.
“If we allow these massive business closures and job losses, we should also be ready to shoulder massive cases of depression and suicide as a country,” he said, as quoted by Standard.
Nakumatt supermarket, Stanbic Bank, Unilever Tea Kenya, East African Portland Cement Company and Finley Flowers in Kericho are among the firms laying off workers.
