Sex addiction is a condition in which an individual cannot manage his or her sexual behavior.
According to Petronilla Wanjala, a social psychologist, persistent sexual thoughts and feelings affect some people’s ability to maintain relationships, work and even fulfill their daily activities.
Ms. Wanjala notes that many people suffer sex addiction silently.
“It is a serious problem that is facing people especially the youth,” she says.
In Machakos, some young people say that they are battling sex addiction.
Maureen Mwende, a university student says that she finds it difficult to control her sexual urge.
Experts observe that sex addiction is dangerous and can make people do bad things that affect their health and social lives.
Mwende notes that sex addiction is manageable so long as the individuals share it out with counselors.
Here are 4 steps on how to overcome sex addiction:
1. Talk about it
The best way to overcome sex addiction is by openly talking about it with a person you trust.
You can share it with your sister, brother, mother, aunt or trusted friend.
When talking about it, be frank and say how you started and how it has affected you.
2. Keep yourself busy
When fighting sex addiction, it is advisable to keep yourself busy by engaging in constructive activities with other people.
Don’t allow yourself to be idle.
3. Don’t be lonely
Don’t lock yourself in isolation, get out and meet people. This will keep your mind busy and help you fight addiction.
4. See a counsellor
Once you talk about it with a trusted friend, it is advisable to seek services of a counselor who will guide you on what to do to recover your normal life.
It is not a crime to be addicted to something but your personal discipline and help from counselors will see you recover to your normal life.
All the best in your "bedroom" addiction recovery.
