Medics at Keumbu hospital in Nyaribari Chache constituency, Kisii County have threatened to stop admitting patients consuming poison.
The medics led by Isaiah Ogora said the move will reduce the number of people consuming poison in the area.
"It is worrying that some people are consuming poison knowing that they will be rushed to the facility to be treated. There are plans that soon we will stop admitting poison victims because every day we must admit at least 2 patients," he said.
Mr. Ogora argued that most of those consuming poison are school going children.
He said locals will be soon directed not to take any patient to the facility who has consumed poison.
"Those with plans of consuming poison must drop the ill plans before they die. Consuming poison is not the final decision locals should venture into whenever they are faced with difficulties," he added.
Area chief Protus Omanga challenged members of the clergy to ensure locals who are found mentally tortured are counselled.
"Clergymen should intervene to ensure locals spotted disturbed in the mind are counselled to curb unnecessary deaths," said Nguli.
