A Nakuru-based lawyer is facing arrest after she failed to show up for a court hearing in a Sh3.8 million land fraud case.
Principal Magistrate Bernard Mararo on Monday directed that Maureen Njeri, who is alleged to have obtained money falsely by claiming to be in a position to sell a piece of land, be apprehended.
Reports on Nation indicate the warrant of arrest against Njeri, who was released on a Sh1 million bond in January last year, was issued after she failed to appear in court as per the agreed dates of hearing.
According to the prosecution represented by Nelly Waweru, the accused was delaying the hearing by ignoring the court.
Waweru added that the accused had skipped three court sessions and only gave unjustifiable excuses.
Njeri's lawyer Angela Kerubo defended her client stating that she was sick, and as such could not make it to court.
“The case has been pending since 2018 and it is necessary for it to be heard and determined. Warrants of arrest are hereby issued against the accused person,” Mararo said.
Njeri is in court for allegedly obtaining Sh3.8 million from Nakuru businessman Shandrakant Lalji Shah.
The case is set to be heard on February 3 and 4, 2020.
