Sarah Wairimu, the key suspect in the murder of her billionaire husband Tob Cohen, has filed an application in court for the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti to be handed a 6 months jail term for contempt of court.
In the application which was filed on Tuesday, Wairimu claimed that Kinoti together with prosecutor Juma Victor and Journalist John Kamau ignored a court order issued by Judge Jessie Lessit on September 16, 2019.
The order had directed DCI, prosecution, defense and victims to stop giving the media information related to the case.
Journalist John Kamau is reported to have written extensively about the disappearance of Tob Cohen.
She also requested for the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) to be fined.
“I also want the court to fine the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the office of DCI for the said Contempt,” said Wairimu as quoted by The Standard.
Lawyer Shadrack Wambui had on the other hand moved to the high court in an effort to dismiss the gag order.
Wambui argued that denying the media information on the case would affect the public since media was their only source of information on the case.
Wairimu further added that her late husband Tob Cohen had left home on July 20, 2019 and did not come back for three weeks prompting her to report it to the police.
“The applicant reported him missing and a similar missing person report was filed by the Dutch Embassy in Nairobi,” Wairimu's lawyer Philp Murgor stated.
According to Wairimu's documents, she was later arrested by the police at Muthaiga Police Station where she was detained.
