State House has confirmed the construction works at the Lamu Port are ongoing.
In a tweet on Thursday, State House said that the first 3 berths were undergoing construction.
The billion-shilling project has led to the creation of job opportunities for the locals working at the construction site.
In its tweet, State House said that upon completion the project would open up the coastal region to investment opportunities.
"Construction work of the first three berths at the Lamu Port in Lamu County is ongoing. The project has created various job opportunities for the youth and opened up the region to prospects of investments in the Blue Economy, " State House announced.
President Uhuru Kenyatta inspected the construction works last year when he visited the county.
When he visited the port in 2019, he announced that the first berth would be opened in October.
"President Kenyatta has announced that the first berth of the new Lamu Port will be opened in October. The President who expressed satisfaction with the progress of the ongoing construction works at the seaport said the mega project will create the much-needed jobs for the youth, " State House announced in 2019.
The progress update of the project comes just days after a Chinese company urged workers to go home over the fear of a terrorist attack.
