Mumias East Member of Parliament Benjamin Washiali has rubbished claims of being part of the team of Jubilee Party members opposed to the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
The BBI was formed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM boss Raila Odinga to cement their March 2018 truce with the aim of proposing solutions to national problems.
However, a number of politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto have questioned Raila's intentions in the BBI, as the DP remains lukewarm on his stand.
Despite being captured saying that they are considering backing the rival Punguza Mizigo bill some weeks ago, Washiali on Tuesday denied being in the anti-BBI camp.
The National Assembly Majority Whip faulted claims that he is opposed to the BBI, noting that the BBI taskforce has not made its proposals, making the bill's content unknown.
"I haven't opposed it because we haven't seen it. We want to see its proposals first (Mimi sijapinga BBI kwa maana hatujaiona. Tunataka kuona mapendekezo yake kwanza)," he said.
He made the remarks during an interview on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha on Tuesday morning.
The vocal Ruto ally also sought to correct the narrative that the government through Uhuru backs the BBI, claiming that they too are in the dark in what it contains.
"What BBI is enjoying the government's backing? The proposals are not yet out (BBI gani inaungwa na serikali? Mapendekezo hayajatoka)," he added.
However, forces allied to Raila have told Kenyans to prepare for a referendum proposal.
