The dormitory caught fire as students went on with their morning preps.

The incident was confirmed by the school's principal Titus Ndambuki who said that the cause of the fire is yet to be established.

"Guards on duty saw the fire and raised alarm, students and teachers who were around gathered to put out the fire. The Good thing is that when the fire broke out, all the students were in class for their morning preps," said Ndambuki.

He said beds and bedding were razed in the fire. He confirmed that no one got injured during the incident.

Students were forced to write the names of suspects who may be behind the arson.

The principal said investigations will be conducted and culprits brought to book.

"We don't know if the fire was caused by students or non-students but we will find out and anyone found culpable will not escape punishment," he said.

Machakos County director of education Shamsha Mohammed who addressed journalists shortly after visiting the school warned students against unrest.

She also urged school principals to be vigilant and put suggestion boxes in their schools citing that the one at Kyanda had never been used to a point it got cobwebs.

She said this is the sixth incident in Machakos within a span of two months.
