Retired Judge Daniel Aganyanya is dead.
Aganyanya died aged 82 at Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu on Friday.
He passed on after suffering a heart attack at his Cheptulu home in Hamisi, Vihiga County.
His daughter Caroline has confirmed his death. Caroline said that the father died after developing breathing problems. She said that they managed to take him to hospital but he died after suffering breathing complications.
"I drove him to Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu today. We had initially hoped to fly him to Aga Khan in Nairobi, where he could be treated by his doctors," said Ms Aganyanya.
"On the way to Kisumu Airport, I noticed he was not okay... While on the way, I realised he was having more trouble breathing. And when we arrived at Aga Khan, he suffered a heart attack. Doctors resuscitated him but he suffered a second heart attack and died,"Caroline added.
Before his demise, Anganyanya served in the Judiciary for around 38 years. He is remembered for the immense role he played to transform the Judiciary during his days in office.
In his book, The Judicial Purge 2003 – That Never Was, Anganyanya narrated how Judges were bribed and offered different forms of offers to derail the course of justice.
