Enock Magara, who paved way for his brother Omingo Magara into parliament after his demise, was one of the Moi regime critics from Gusii land. The legislator had joined the anti-Moi bandwagon that gave Moi a headache.

The vocal MP was fearless and spoke in public with audacity. In his rallies, he mostly condemned the dictatorship Moi and in one of the harambees at his constituency, he said how he wished Moi to die. A statement that saw him arrested and charged with treason.

"Since God had failed to answer Kenyan's cry for President Moi's death, he hoped he (Moi) would die soon of natural causes," he said as recorded by the Daily Nation.

This angered Moi a great deal till he asked the police what their work was when some leaders could hurl insults on others in public and in their presence.

His death was untimely as he died on a road accident, which became a talk of the day as the leaders affiliated to opposition viewed it as an assassination. However, there was no evidence and also nobody was charged.

According to their reports, a red police car was stalking Enock Magara till the point where the accident occurred claiming his life. This is the time Omingo Magara bounced on the seat and even defended the seat in 2002 elections.

During the burial of Magara, there were chaos as people believed that he was killed by the Moi.

Therefore, anybody who associated with moi was not allowed to make a speech. A reason to why Sam Ongeri who was a Health Minister then, faced hostility and resorted to run away through the maize plantation.
