Kitutu Chache South lawmaker Richard Onyonka has weighed in on the debate regarding politicians making donations to churches.
The issue has been a hot topic of discussion, with a section of Kenyans questioning the source of wealth of politicians with a great appetite for fundraisers.
A section of politicians has termed the fundraisers a way of laundering graft money, with Onyonka further questioning the source of the millions being donated in churches each weekend.
Speaking on NTV's AM Live show on Monday, the MP wondered how the individuals manage to give more money than the richest companies in Kenya.
"The most successful company is Safaricom, have you seen Safaricom giving out money to churches every weekend?" he posed.
The blame has landed on Deputy President William Ruto who has been crisscrossing the nation engaging in charitable functions.
However, according to Onyonka, it would have been better if the money was used to establish solid initiatives that would benefit more Kenyans.
He stated that instead of engaging in church donations, the money can be used to build clinics.
"We'd rather go build a small clinic and affect people directly than engage in church donations. Our country cannot take off until we fix corruption," he added.
The Catholic Church last week banned cash donations, as well as politicking in its churches.
