Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi has been released on Sh300,000 cash bail. The controversial blogger denied extorting Sh17.5m charges when he appeared before Nairobi court pending mention of his case on February 7.
The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested the blogger on Monday for allegedly attempting to extort Sh17.5 million from a businessman. The blogger was arrested alongside Emmanuel Nyamweya Ong'era.
The duo was charged with extortion, false accusation and blackmail. The suspects had demanded that the said amount is deposited into their bank accounts before they can proceed to pull down libellous posts on different online platforms.
"The two had just received Ksh. 1 Million from one of their victims being a down payment of Ksh 17.5 million they had earlier demanded as a precondition for pulling down libellous posts appearing on a website allegedly owned by the suspects," DCI said.
The complainant's lawyer, Kamau Chege, had asked the court to deny him bail for posting the information online.
He lamented that the blogger has been tormenting even when he made an effort to warn him.
The blogger has, however, denied the allegations levelled against him.
This is not the first time the blogger has found himself in hot soup over such incidents.
The complainant asked the court to take stern action against the blogger so that he can desist from the same.
