Addressing journalists, the former Jubilee Party chairman said that attempts by the CeC to prevent the county assembly from exercising its oversight role would not amount to much.

"Lawyers are going to articulate our position so that the said Nerry Achar is brought back to the ambit of the assembly authority which is his appointing authority," Onyango Oloo said.

Nerry Achar faces an impeachment motion in the assembly and has filed a lawsuit against the county assembly in a bid to prevent his appearance before the assembly.

The speaker said in no uncertain terms that the county assembly would not cede to any other government institution its oversight role, a position that would be reiterated by its lawyers.

He contended that the assembly was deriving its oversight role from the constitution.

The Finance CeC failed to appear before the county assembly committee in spite of being summoned.

An ad hoc committee was established to investigate him over claims that he is not fit to hold public office.

Achar was expected to appear before the committee to tackle the allegations levelled against him.
