Former Kasarani MP Elizabeth Ongoro and her husband Ferdinand Masha have been freed on a Sh3m cash bail.
This is after they appeared in court on Monday over graft charges, Citizen Digital reports.
They are accused of colluding with other individuals to share Sh49 million meant for a school project.
Ongoro and her husband denied swindling funds meant for the Kasarani Girls High School project after it emerged that Sh48,907,826 were nowhere to be seen yet the project remains unseen.
They have been faulted for failing to follow the laws of procurement in the awarding of the contract.
The former MP, her husband and 17 other persons have been tasked to explain how the funds were used.
Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) chief executive officer Twalib Mbarak said that they have enough evidence to prove that the accused persons' misused resources meant for the public for their selfish gains.
“The Commission established that the award of the contract for the construction of the school was made without due regard to the procurement laws, the school does not exist, and that payments were made to different individuals and companies associated to the NG-CDF patron and committee members for services not rendered,” Twalib said in a statement quoted by Daily Nation.
Ongoro has claimed that the charges are political witch-hunt against her.
