The Masisi was welcomed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto after he landed into the country.

Botswana has since promised to back Kenya’s bid for a seat at the UN Security Council. The new development is good news for Kenya before the position becomes vacant before the end of the year.

Masisi said that he is ready to support Kenya because the two nations share cordial ties.

Masisi, who spoke at State House of Kenya after landing into the country, expressed his willingness to strengthen the relationship between his mother country and Kenya.

“Botswana will vote before Kenya votes itself in. This is out of a desire to further nourish our friendship because we trust you with your willingness to engage with our issues that need broad discussions at the United Nations,” he said, as quoted by Daily Nation.

Masisi and Uhuru, who is completing his second and final term in power, are expected to discuss a wide range of issues during their meetings in the country.

The leaders are also expected to address the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2016 after it emerged that it is yet to be implemented. The MoU was signed by President Kenyatta and immediate former President Ian Khama.
