Two security officers have been confirmed dead, while seven others have sustained serious injuries after their vehicle ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted along Khorof Kharar in Wajir County.
The incident occurred on Friday while the officers were on their routine patrol. Confirming the incidence, the Wajir County Police Commander Thomas Ngeywa said the attack took place around 4pm on Friday.
"I confirm that our officers who were on a routine patrol were seriously injured after the vehicle they were traveling in hit an IED that had been planted along the route," Mr Ngeywa said.
About five days ago, another group of officers patrolling Kutulo on foot escaped unhurt after another IED planted along Tarbaj to Kutulo road exploded.
Less than ten days ago, four construction workers were abducted by Al Shabaab militants while building a road along Riba and Konton. Luckily, one of the victims managed to escape.
Early this month, eleven people were killed, with six others suffering minor injuries after suspected Al Shabaab attacked a Mandera-bound bus. Among the eleven killed were eight policemen and three civilians.
The yesterday's incident brings the number of wajir attacks in the last three months to six.
