Kenyan athlete Eliud Kipchoge has arrived in Mombasa ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebrations set to be held on Sunday.
The athlete who recently made history after being the first man to finish a full marathon in less than two hours was invited to attend the national day celebrations, Tuko.co.ke has reported.
Also invited to the event is Brigid Kosgei who broke a 16-year-old women's marathon record in Vienna one day after Kipchoge's historic achievement.
Kenya Forest Service (KFS) confirmed through their twitter handle that Eliud Kipchoge had been flown to Mombasa ahead of the celebrations.
"KFS has this morning had the Honour of flying to Mombasa Eliud Kipchoge and his team for the Mashujaa Day Celebrations. Eliud Kipchoge often trains at Kaptagat Forest," read a tweet by KFS.
Kenyans will be celebrating the country's heroes on Mashujaa Day with reports indicating that Kipchoge and Kosgei will be honoured for flying Kenya's flag high.
Kipchoge clocked 1 hour 59 minutes and 40 seconds in the INEOS 1:59 Challenge to break the two-hour marathon barrier while Kosgei crossed the finish line in a time of 2 hours 15 minutes and 25 seconds beating Paula Radcliffe's record in the women's marathon.
