Dagane said youth from Garissa County should be considered first in the shortlisting for the Kenya Population and Housing Census jobs in the county.

He said the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) should ensure local youths get various positions as part of efforts to counter the unemployment menace.

Speaking when he met over 150 youths from Fafi sub-county in Kamuthe on Wednesday, Dagane said it would be improper to offer the contracts to people from other counties to work in Garissa yet local youth are available for the temporary jobs.

“It is in order for the youth to be considered for the temporary jobs announcement by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics. KNBS should give the positions to residents of Garissa County in their respective regions while prioritising persons currently residing in Garissa County,” he said.

Dagane asked foreign nationals living in Garissa not to interfere with the exercise when it starts in August.

“Foreign nationals residing in the county should not to interfere with the exercise so that Garissa gets its true figures which is key to planning for future projects,” pleaded Dagane.
