Most people die of cancer usually because of late detection. When cancer is detected early, treatment is easier and more possible.
However, with late detection, it will have grown to advanced stages and therefore treatment can prove impossible.
Here are 3 ways you can help detect cancer early;
1. Go for regular cancer screening
Cancer screening is the examination of ones body to check for possible tumor growths before symptoms appear. It is appropriate to go for yearly check-ups by a doctor and discuss with them the screenings that matter most.
Women should go for yearly mammogram tests to help prevent breast cancer especially those above 40 years. Men aged 45 and above are also advised to go for regular screening for prostate cancer.
In general, every individual should seek regular screening to help detect any cancer type early before it grows.
2. Watch out for signs and symptoms
Various cancer types have different signs and symptoms. These symptoms can be acute depending on the stage of the possible type of cancer.
Common signs and symptoms include unexplained weight loss, fever, fatigue and pain. The earlier you detect and report any of these symptoms, the better. Reporting such symptoms early could help with early diagnosis and treatment.
3. Know your family history and act accordingly
Your genes have a role to play in different types of cancers. If there are people in your lineage who had and died of cancer, there are possibilities that you could be affected.
This means that there is a gene in your family responsible for a type of cancer. To be safe, you need to act accordingly; by going for regular screening and taking all relevant precautions to lower your risks.
