According to a notice released on Friday by the Kenya Railways, it intends to bring down all illegal structures sitting on its reserve land across the country.

“We are trying to re-establish connectivity within the towns. We have demand for our services in Mombasa, Ruiru and Kisumu. Those lines are very important for our operations so we can start serving the public efficiently and conveniently,” said Kenya Railways acting Managing Director Phillip Mainga as quoted by the Standard.

Mr Maringa said that the main reason for eviction is to take back what belongs to the public and complement the road transport network, whereby the use of the railway will reduce jam on roads.

Kenya Railways is working hand in hand with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission in the process of repossessing its properties, has asked those with illegal tittle deeds are asked to surrender them to the cooperation before October 30, 2019.

“The corporation would like to bring to the attention of members of the public that we are in the process of reclaiming and repossessing all Corporation land and property held by or vested in the Kenya Railways which have been illegally acquired by private actors countrywide,” Kenya Railways’ notice reads.
