In an unexpected move, Garissa Township MP Aden Duale now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta and his newfound ally Raila Odinga to use the handshake to implement the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission report which was tabled in parliament 5 years ago.
Speaking in relation to Raila’s recent interview on Citizen TV where he was seemingly noncommittal on the TJRC findings, the National Assembly Majority leader said that time is ripe for the report to be implemented and called on Building Bridges team led by Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji and Adams Oloo to use the report as its scheme of work.
“I saw Mr Odinga trying to evade the TJRC issue; we must deal with the TJRC report now. Yusuf Haji and Adams Oloo should not look anywhere. Come and pick the TJRC report because you don’t need any scheme of work other than the report. Pick the report and implement it,” Duale said.
In 2016, during the funeral of former Minister William Ole Ntimama, Raila and Duale publicly clashed over the contentious TJRC issue.
The lawmaker’s sudden change of mind must have come as a surprise to many.
