Wiper party leader and Ukambani kingpin Kalonzo Musyoka has declared political showdown ahead of the expected by-election in Machakos.
Kalonzo is apparently waiting for the Supreme Court to okay a by-election and use the opportunity to settle political scores with Governor Alfred Mutua.
Mutua has been charting his own political path defying Kalonzo who is the de facto Kamba political bigwig.
The Wiper leader said he will mobilize his political machinery to ensure Mutua is sent packing.
“By all accounts, Wavinya is now the Governor of Machakos. And when the time comes to validate that, I think we will all have to move to Machakos, all of us from Kitui, Makueni, all this is a battle for the pride of our people,” Kalonzo said.
Sources within Wiper have also indicated that Kalonzo will not play second fiddle in the 2022 presidential election and will instead go it alone.
Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu on Tuesday during a function attended by Raila Odinga and Kalonzo in the county said Ukambani is strongly behind the Wiper party leader.
"This time round, we want to be in your government, a full government and one that you control. We are fully behind you. Like my sister Wavinya has said, we are only waiting for your direction and to tell us how high we should jump, not if we should,” Ngilu said.
