In a tweet on Monday, Boniface Mwangi claimed crimes have been happening in the presence of police officers.

He argued that the problem with leaders caught in shady deals is that there is always an officer involved and that makes it hard for the withdrawal of the security team on the VIPs.

"Corruption in Kenya happens in the presence of police officers. The president, his deputy, judges, governors, senators, MP’s, all have state security. When any of them is involved in a shady deal, do drugs, engage in sex trafficking, there is an officer of the law who’s in the know," Boniface Mwangi said in a tweet.

Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai on Monday issued a statement saying leaders who will be caught on the wrong side will lose their security detail.

“To avoid compromising and demeaning the very essence of which the police is mandated, the National Police Service shall not provide security detail to VIPs who are involved or suspected to be involved in crime until they are cleared by the courts,” read the statement, as quoted by Citizen Digital.
