Embakasi East Mp Babu Owino has given advice to Egerton University students that are expected to pay Sh16, 862 damage fees. Babu a former University of Nairobi students president told them to avoid paying.
Egerton students have been rioting since Sunday evening complaining about the amount set by the management. They want the varsity management to come out clear on how they concluded on such a high sum
“The damage fee is too much, and we are not going to pay. They should come up with a proper audit and show us how they reached that figure,” said Evans Barasa, a student at the university as quoted by the standard.
A number of students have since been arrested since when the rioting began. They went on strike on December making the management set up a damage fee for all students who were in session by then.
They are the therefore expected to clear the amount before resuming January-April semester. The youthful lawmaker termed the fee as con manship.
"Comrades must never pay the 16k which the Egerton University Administration is demanding from them. That is pure conman ship." Babu Owino noted on Facebook
