Deputy President William Ruto should come out on his true position over the ongoing evictions in the Mau Forest complex, James Orengo has said.
For months now, despite the government settling on kicking out illegal settlers, Dr Ruto, who enjoys massive support from evictees, has remained mum about the matter.
And at Narok South on Saturday, the Siaya senator challenged Ruto to speak about the evictions, arguing that his voice matters a lot.
He wondered why President Uhuru Kenyatta can support the move yet his deputy, who hails from Rift Valley, go silent on the matter.
“If President Uhuru Kenyatta is supporting environmental conservation, why is his Deputy silent on the same?” Orengo posed.“
ODM leader Raila Odinga, who was the first to support the evictions in 2011, snubbed the debate given the previous political implications he suffered.
"I do not want to talk on the Mau issue today lest people say I am back at it,” he said.
“Tobiko is implementing government policy and we should support him fully,” added Kalonzo Musyoka.
Rift Valley Regional Coordinator George Natembeya affirmed that there was no turning back on the Mau eviction. He said the 60-day notice given for the settlers to leave the forest will not be extended.
“The government will never go slow on eviction. Upon the lapse of the period given, a forceful eviction will be done,” Natembeya said.
