A Kenya Navy soldier based at Mtongwe in Likoni, Mombasa County reportedly gunned down a 19-year-old boda boda rider under unclear circumstances.
Leonard Komora, the rider, according to reports was shot dead this Wednesday morning at around 6.45 am outside the Kenya Navy staff quarters.
Confirming the incident, Jane Munyoki, Likoni Sub-County Police Commander has said the report they had received is that the shooting was triggered by the rider trespassing the navy base.
"The report we have is that the rider was shot at for trespass. We have started further investigations," said Ms. Munyoki.
The deceased's college riders are said he has been picking one of his customers from the base, adding that the customers from the base are usually the soldiers.
"The only customers that we usually pick are the soldiers themselves, but we usually suffer in the hands of these people," said Mr. Ali Khamis, one of the riders.
The deceased's mother Martha Njeri Munene said the rider was her only son. She, however, noted that it was unfair for police to deny her a chance to see her son.
Police have secured the crime scene where onlookers were asked to stay 500 metres away.
"This is unfair. They have killed my son for no good reason. He was my only son. He was the one providing for me," she said.
