The meeting was revealed by the Senate Committee on Justice, Legal Affairs and Human Rights on its Twitter handle on Wednesday.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei is the chairman of the committee and is one of the Rift Valley legislators who were strongly opposed to the cancellation of the Kimwarer project and the scaling down of the Arror project

"Earlier today, the Senate Committee on Justice, Legal Affairs and Human Rights Chaired by Sen. @cherargeiteso, met with petitioners residing from Elgeyo-Marakwet County regarding the cancellation of Kimwarer Dam and the Scaling down of Arror Dam, " the tweet read.

The Kimwarer and Arror dam projects attracted controversy after reports of alleged corruption started to emerge leading to the arrest of the Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich.

President Uhuru Kenyatta cancelled Kimwarer and scaled-down Arror after receiving a report from a committee that had been investigating the matter.

The report found that the Kimwarer dam project was not viable both technically and financially.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba charged that the head of state had been misadvised by the committee and claimed that the cancellation of the Kimwarer dam project was akin to excluding the people who were to benefit from the project from economic development.
