In a 20-minute speech, Umar, who has not been seen in public since 2016, accused Kenya Defense Forces of imposing Sheikh Ahmed Madobe.

His statement resonates with that of federal government President Mohammed Farmaajo, a move that could raise doubt on Somalia government's commitment in Al-Shabaab war.

"We shall not allow our neighboring enemies to run show in Jubaland. We are a sovereign nation and nobody can forcefully chose leaders for us," he said.

In August, Farmaajo also rejected Madobe's victory, accusing Kenya of internal interference. Since then, Mogadishu has banned direct flights to Kismayo, a move that has irked Madobe.

In the speech, Mr Umar also accused the US and Britain of forceful incursion in Somalia, adding that the two nations want to siphon oil.

"There seems to be an increase in the invasion led by the United States and Britain," Ahmed said in the 20-minute message circulated on pro-Shabaab websites.

"Hostility by Christians against Muslim society has increased. The objective of this hostility is to loot the oil wells in the country and other natural resources such as fish, and to hand our oceans over to Kenya and Ethiopia," he said.

He vowed to reject International Court of Justice's verdict on maritime dispute between Kenya and Somalia which is due November this year.

"We tell the world that we don't compromise on our oceans and we need our society to be aware that Kenya has already engulfed a large swathe of our territory before aiming for the maritime claim."

Madobe, the commander of Ras Kamboni Brigade, has been instrumental in KDF's war against Al-Shabaab. He helped the forces capture Kismayo in 2012.
