Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure the Kibra by-elections are free and fair.
On Wednesday, Owino said that he will push for the removal of IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati from office if the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party candidate Imran Okoth loses in the mini poll.
He argued that ODM enjoys massive support in Kibra, adding that there is no way Jubilee or any other party will win the seat. The lawmaker said that ODM has what it takes to win with over 70 percent majority.
In a face-to-face confrontation, the legislator said that ODM will win the seat with a landslide. He claimed that the party conducted a poll that showed ODM is the most popular party in Kibra, adding that there is no way it can lose in the by-election.
“Chairman we did an opinion poll and it is showing that 70% of the Kibra residents are going to vote for our candidate.
"Therefore any reduction of that number will lead us Mr. chairman to mobilise, and this time it will be serious mobilization, to eject you from this office,” he said, as quoted by Citizen Digital.
The remarks came after ODM raised concern over the updating of the Kibra Voters register. The party had threatened to take action before it was given audience by the chairman.
ODM’s Imran is locking horns with Jubilee’s McDonald Mariga following the demise of the area MP Ken Okoth. Both candidates have exuded confidence that they will win the seat in the November 7 exercise.
ODM had faulted IEBC of ignoring some of its requests before the meeting was convened.
