As the Building Bridges Initiative task force report continues to generate political heat amid calls for a referendum, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has told off politicians opposed to the popular initiative.
While speaking in Kirinyaga County on Friday during a fundraiser, which was also attended by a host of Cabinet Secretaries including Interior CS Fred Matiang'i, Joho told off the anti-referendum brigade saying that the process should be people-driven.
"The problem with our country is that leaders think they can fix everything instantly. It is not about our leaders but the kind of system in place. Do not listen to us but read and decide for yourself," the ODM Deputy Party Leader.
During the BBI launch at the Bomas of Kenya of Wednesday, Joho in his speech said Kenya's biggest problem is her leaders, pointing out that the time for change has come.
His latest sentiments in Kirinyaga come at a time when the BBI report is continuing to divide political opinion with a section of politicians allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM party leader Raila rooting for a referendum.
However, pro-Deputy President William Ruto camp wants a parliamentary system to make any constitutional changes proposed by the Yusuf Haji-led team.
While speaking on Thursday during the opening of new ODM office, Raila said that BBI report should not go the parliamentary route claiming it can easily be "killed" there.
