Kingi was first elected as a governor in the 2013 general election on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket.

He easily won re-election in the August 8, 2017 general election.

Kingi is among vocal and close allies of ODM Party leader Raila Odinga.

Here is a look at his academic background, his highest qualification and career.

He was born in 1974 in Malindi, Kilifi County.

He schooled at Alliance Boys High School and sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 1992.

Kingi holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the University of Nairobi (UoN).

The ODM governor has held several ministerial positions in government.

Before joining politics, governor Kingi was a private lawyer.

He also served as MP for Magarini constituency before he won the governor's seat in 2013.

Governor Kingi is now serving his last term in office and has not hinted on his next political destination.

However, Governor King’s allegiance to ODM has been questioned in the recent months with claims that he is spearheading formation of a Coast political party.

The governor is married to Liz Kingi and are blessed with two children.
