Nominated Member of Parliament David Sankok has claimed that the March 9, 2018 truce was a trick meant to trap Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) boss Raila Odinga.
Odinga reached a truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta who had for long topped the list of his political enemies, marking an end to their rivalry.
Sankok has now claimed that the handshake was aimed at taming the former prime minister who was causing too much trouble for Uhuru's government.
He argued that Uhuru is now slowly puncturing Raila's powers ahead of the 2022 polls by drawing him from the opposition where his activities made him strong and lobbied for his African Union slot to make him irrelevant.
"Raila was a tractor without fuel. He was given some fuel but Uhuru is again draining it from behind using this small position he has given him (Tinga bila mafuta aliwekewa mafuta kidogo lakini Uhuru huku nyuma ako na njia ya kudrain kutumia hii kiti kidogo amempea)," he said.
He made the remarks during an interview on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi show on Wednesday night.
Sankok said that consequently, Uhuru has managed to win Raila's backing and even turned him into his representative, unlike before when he was his government's main headache.
The MP likened Raila to a troublesome student who has been made a class monitor as a way of making him behave as per the wishes of the teacher.
"Uhuru is very intelligent, he has turned him into the class monitor. He is now the one telling people to be quiet (amemfanya monitor sasa yeye ndio anaambia watu nyamazeni! Nyamazen!)," he said.
Since the handshake and his appointment as the African Union Infrastructure boss, Raila has been seen to support Uhuru's initiatives.
