Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has told off the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), for daring Siaya Senator James Orengo to resign for terming it a “criminal enterprise.”
In a tweet on Wednesday, Sifuna said Orengo was right to call for reforms at the commission.
He reminded the Wafula Chebukati-led commission that Orengo does not need its support to gain political mileage.
The lawyer reiterated that the commission has proven beyond doubt that it is criminal in nature, and nothing can change that.
"James Orengo had political mileage before you existed as an institution, he does not need you to gain any. 2. That you are a criminal enterprise is a fact established by the Supreme Court itself.3. You serve at the pleasure of Kenyans and if they want you to go you will," he tweeted.
Orengo had said that the current commission cannot be allowed to hold a referendum because of it has failed the people of Kenya.
“We may have to do with this IEBC for purposes of the referendum but make sure it goes after the referendum because in my view, this IEBC is a criminal enterprise. It really should go,” said Orengo.
