Muthama, a close ally of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has established his name in the Ukambani political circles.

The former senator represented Kalonzo in the negotiations that settled on Raila Odinga as NASA presidential flag bearer in last year’s polls.

He also represents Kalonzo in the NASA secretariat and has been vocal in advocating for electoral reforms in the country.

Here are seven interesting things you did not know about former senator Muthama:

1. Staunch Christian and family man

 In a recent interview with local radio station, Muthama revealed that he is a staunch Christian who believes in the word of God.

The former senator revealed that he never missies church at his rural home in Kangundo.

He also reveals that he is a family man and cares for his wife and children.

2. Graduate 

The former senator is a graduate of Gemological Institute of America and a member of the Geological Society of Kenya. 

He is also a member of the Kenya Chamber of mines.

3. Businessman/philanthropy

Apart from politics, the former senator is a successful businessman and philanthropy with investments in the mining and agricultural sector.

4. Inspired by veteran politician and freedom fighter Paul Ngei

 Muthama reveals that he was inspired by veteran politician and freedom fighter Paul Ngei. 

 The former senator says that his active role in politics is not getting wealth but to fight for the people’s rights.

5. Elected Kangundo MP in 2007

Muthama contested for Kangundo parliamentary seat in 2007 and won.

He was among the vocal MPs and often criticized the government on matters of corruption.

In 2013, he contested for Machakos senate seat and won on the Wiper party ticket.

In 2017, the former senator did not vie for any elective seat.

6. Arrested and locked up in cells

The former senator was among eight politicians who were arrested in June 2016 and locked up in cells over hate speech remarks for a week.

7. Supports Arsenal Football Club

In his recent interview, Muthama revealed that he supports Arsenal Football Club and Barcelona.

Locally, the former senator supports Gor-Mahia Football Club.
