Police in Mombasa are holding seven suspected gang members accused of terrorising residents in the county.Five of the suspects, said to be part of the dreaded Watalia gang, were arrested in Likoni.The other two, who were said to be armed with crude weapons, were nabbed in Mikindani, Changamwe Constituency, after allegedly attacking and injuring four people.The five suspected Watalia gang members were nabbed on Saturday after reportedly attacking and injuring five people.Confirming the arrest, Mombasa County police chief Johnstone Ipara said police will continue with their crackdown on the gangs, as one of the measures to restore security in the region."The crackdown will go on to flush out all criminals from the area who may take advantage of the long December holiday to terrorise and rob residents of their properties,” said Mr Ipara.Ipara said the seven arrested suspects will be arraigned in court today (Monday)."We are preparing charge sheets so that they are charged in court on Monday,” he said.The police boss urged members of the public to report any suspected criminals to the police."Any criminal should be reported to police for the officers to do their work. Everyone's security is guaranteed,” he added.
