The baby was referred from Kapenguria County Referral Hospital on Thursday after doctors discovered the needles following an X-Ray scan conducted on Wednesday.

According to MTRH Chief Executive Dr. Wilson Aruasa, the child is now in a stable condition.

“We have conducted an operation on the three-year-old girl and the surgeons found six sewing needles inside the liver and one in the small intestines. All were removed successfully,” said Dr. Aruasa after the operation that took 1hr and 45 minutes.

“The child is now at the anesthesia unit recovering where she is under antibiotics to salvage the pain,” he added.

The baby who was brought up by a single mother is expected to be discharged once doctors are satisfied that she is recovering well and is in safe hands.

Her mother abandoned her because of frequent illness over the last one year and she has been under the care of her grandparents who said before the discovery of the needles, she has been complaining of stomachaches.
