Muslim faithfuls in Nakuru joined their counterparts from around the world in observing the fast during the holy month of Ramadhan. During this period they are expected to bring out their best in the practice of Islam. But what do you know about Ramadhan?
Here are a few tips:
1. Ramadhan is essentially the 9th month of the Islamic calendar observed by Muslims all over the world as a month of fasting.
2. The period is meant to commemorate the first revelation of the Qur'an to Muhammad according to Islamic belief.
3. Fasting is obligatory for adult Muslims, except those who are suffering from an illness, travelling, the elderly, the pregnant, breastfeeding mothers, or those going through menstrual bleeding.
4. While fasting from dawn until sunset, Muslims refrain from consuming food, drinking liquids, smoking, and engaging in sexual relations.
5. Muslims are also instructed to refrain from sinful behavior that may negate the reward of fasting, such as false speech such as insulting, backbiting, cursing, lying and fighting.
6. Food and drink is served daily, before dawn and after sunset.
7. Muslims are expected to be kind to others, share with the less fortunate and practice being good materially and spiritually.
