Kithimani Court report findings showed that out of all the cases reported yearly in the courts, 70 percent of the cases are rape related and defamation of young girls by older men.

The findings were announced during a (baraza) meeting held in Kaonyweni town in Kithyoko Masinga Sub-County on Thursday afternoon. Speaking during the forum Kithimani Law Court resident Magistrate, Principal Davis Karani stated that the report prepared in the past year showed heightened rape cases.

“In the past year rape and mainly defamation reported cases have heightened upto 70% out of all the other type of cases. This situation mainly involves older men raping young girls,” said Karani

Present during the forum was Yatta OCPD Kipsang Chagat and the area Deputy County Commissioner Muraya Mwangi. Mwangi cautioned the men who take advantage of young girls that the hand of the law would soon catch up with them.

“More than 15 school girls from Kaonyweni are pregnant from older men which is not a pleasant situation. Last week a case of a 70 year old man who raped his 5 years granddaughter was reported. This is unlawful and even against our society norms and we will not leave the culprits’ scot free,” said Mwangi.

On the other hand, the police boss urged the leaders of nyumba Kumi initiative and members of community policing to work together with the police officers in ensuring security.

The meeting had been organized by the Court users committee who held a forum with the area residents.
