A 70-year-old woman was Wednesday night lynched by youths after she was allegedly found performing acts believed to be evil in Meng’utha Village in Ndithini Location Masinga sub-county.

Confirming the incident on Thursday morning, the area Assistant Chief Joel Kakimu stated that a group of furious rowdy youth found the old woman near Ndithini forest on Wednesday night and alleged she was performing evil acts before they beat her to death and setting her body on fire.

“I have received the news of the unlawful act by the youth who have dubbed themselves as ‘Ngwata’ (arrest) who are alleging to fight witchcraft in the area. The woman was beaten and lynched to death,” said Asst. Chief Kakimu.

According to the Asst. Chief, this is a second act after the youths burnt down a home of a resident accused to be a witchdoctor in the same Location a while ago.

On the contrary Peter Muthoka a witness who was at the scene stated that he had seen the elderly woman earlier in a funeral service earlier that day and he believed she was on her way home.

The Asst. Chief however warned the area residents against taking law into their own hands and instead should report unlawful acts to Police for investigations.

“It is not yet clear whether the old woman was on her way from the funeral or she was performing witchcraft,” said Asst. Chief Kakimu.

The remains of the diceased were taken to Ndithini Mission Hospital Mortuary as officers launch investigation into the incident.
