President Uhuru Kenyatta has congratulated Malkia Strikers for qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games.
In a Statement shared by State House, President Kenyatta said he is proud of the team for the putting the nation on the global map.
He vowed to support the team in all ways possible to ensure they perform well in the Olympic games.
"President Uhuru Kenyatta has congratulated the national women volleyball team , #MalkiaStrikers, for qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after a streak of four impressive wins in the qualifiers held in Yaounde, Cameroon," State House tweeted.
"The President termed the team's qualification, after 16 years of waiting, as a showcase of Kenya's rising profile as an African sporting powerhouse and assured the team of the Government's continued support as they prepare for the summer games," State House said.
Other leaders have also congratulated the team for its exemplary performance.
Sports PS Ambassador Kirimi Kaberia hailed the team for showing outstanding performance during the competition.
“The government will ensure Malkia Strikers gets the best preparation before the Olympic games so that they can compete on an equal footing with the other teams,” he said.
