A patient died on Friday evening while the ambulance in which he was being transported in was involved in an accident and landed in a ditch in Kirinyaga county.

The accident happened when the ambulance veered off the road and landed into a ditch at JMB, near Shell Petrol Station along the Kerugoya-Kutus Road.

According to witnesses, the ambulance driver who was rushing the patient to the Kerugoya Hospital was attempting to overtake a Saloon car before the accident occurred.

Isaac Kiragu, a good Samaritan who also witnessed the accident, four people including the driver sustained serious injuries, while the patient lost his life.

It was double tragedy at the same spot when another accident involving a Toyota Fielder vehicle and a matatu occurred some 30 minutes later, reports the Citizen Digital.

The second accident left one person injured, and was rushed to the Kerugoya Hospital by one Mr Benjamin Maganjo.

Another such incident was reported in June last year, when an ambulance rushing to an accident scene Njambini area in Kinangop, Nyandarua county, was involved in a crash.

The Kenya Red Cross ambulance with staff members on board was rushing to help with the loss of a FlySax plane, but was involved in a collision with a lorry near Ol Kalou Town.

Three of the staff were rushed to the Nakuru General Hospital with serious injuries while the remaining five, who escaped with soft tissue injuries, were treated st the JM Memorial Hospital in Ol Kalou.
