Three politicians allied to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party are expected to be grilled over claims of making inciting remarks in the ongoing Kibra mini poll campaigns, Monday.
Suna East lawmaker Junet Mohammed, former Embakasi South MP Irshad Sumra and Babu Owino (Embakasi East) are expected to appear before the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to record statements.
The NCIC says that it has recordings showing the three making remarks deemed reckless, according to commission Chief Executive Officer Hassan Mohammed on Thursday.
“Investigations are ongoing. We have looked at the video clips and investigators are also on the ground looking for more evidence,” he told the Star in an interview.
He confirmed that the politicians had disputed the commission's records in their earlier visit, and requested for time to review the recordings set to be used against them.
“When they came here they said they wanted time to look at the video clips before they can record statements. We agreed they come back on October 28,” he added.
He said that the campaigns have been largely peaceful so far and reckless remarks might disrupt the same, adding that the politicians will be properly dealt with as per the law.
After the first visit, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, also the legal representative of Junet and Owino has rubbished the allegations heaped on the two, terming them 'prejudicial'.
Mr Mohammed also warmed Kenyans against making reckless remarks on social media.
