Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura now says that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) still stands a chance of winning the presidency in the 2022 general polls.
Speaking on Saturday, the lawmaker said that Raila will have to ensure that he retains his support across the country, if he is to finally realize his long-time presidential bid.
He stated that with the support of half of the nation that he has been enjoying, it will be easier to win the race, if he can proceed to clinch just a handful of votes in Mt Kenya region.
The leader noted that the Mt Kenya region is very likely to further disintegrate in the near future, thanks to the current infighting among leaders, which can hand Raila some votes.
"Kutakuwa na mgawanyiko Central Kenya. Lakini kushinda kwa Raila kutategemea kama atakuwa na ile nusu yake ya nchi)," he said on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi.
This translates to; ""There will be some division in Central. But Raila's win will depend on whether he will still have his half of the nation."
The lawmaker's remarks come only a few days after Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru said that the region is ready to support Raila come 2022.
At the same time, Deputy President William Ruto who was until recently been seen as the region's favorite has been facing some opposition from a section of leaders.
The group, led by former Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe and allies of the Kieleweke faction have been telling him off against expecting the region's support.
However, while Ruto's pending candidature is already in the public domain, Raila remains silent on his intentions.
