Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has recalled the day some of Kenya's top tycoons wanted to bribe him so that he dilutes a report that had implicated some of their colleagues in corruption.
Khalwale who by then was serving as Ikolomani MP said the push was hard but he managed to resist the bribery attempt and he proceeded to write the report and presented it to Parliament as it was.
He said one cabinet minister approached him and told him "to look at Nairobi" and decide if he wants to end up poor with no property to own in the city. The minister, he said, had promised that they would take care of him.
He, however, said when they failed they resorted to alternative means that involved going directly to Parliament's plenary to dilute the report. Khalwale was then serving as Parliament's Public Accounts Committee Chairman.
Khalwale who was speaking to Radio Africa Group's Radio Jambo said a similar incident happened when he moved a Motion in Parliament impeaching a cabinet minister then.
"If the chairman of an oversight committee is strong, then it becomes difficult for anyone to compromise," he said on Friday during the interview.
Khalwale will be remembered for his boldness when he moved a Motion impeaching former Finance Minister Amos Kimunya who was accused of selling State-owned Grand Regency Hotel.
