Donald Trump made history as the first sitting United States President to visit North Korea
Trump crossed the military demilitarized line on Sunday and entered into North Korea after he shook hands with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
The two leaders spent about one minute tapping each other's back as they engaged into short chats while on North Korean soil before crossing back to the border.
Through his interpreter, Kim Jong Un said he never expected to see Donald Trump cross into North Korean soil
"I never expected to meet you at this place," said Kim Jong.
Trump responded back by saying crossing the highly guarded military demilitarized line had made him proud.
"Proud to step over the line," said Trump.
It was revealed that this historic meeting started with a tweet made by Trump. Trump had tweeted while in Japan on a trip to Asia for the G-20 Summit, where he said he was interested and open to a greeting with Kim Jong on the border.
Kim confirmed indeed the meeting was not pre-planned.
"I believe that meeting here, which is a symbol of division and a hostile past, I think meeting here, two countries that have a hostile past, we are showcasing to the world that we have a new presentation and we have a positive meeting going forward," Kim said as quoted by CNN
The two leaders held talks inside the Freedom House at the DMZ that lasted for about an hour and discussed a number of things and even agreed to restart stalled nuclear talks.
Trump revealed to the press that they had agreed to come up with a team that will soon revive nuclear talks that stalled after the last summit in February.
Trump concluded the meeting by inviting Kim Jong to the White House.
