Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung'wa has exuded confidence that Deputy President William Ruto-led Tanga Tanga faction will defeat Kieleweke in the battle to control Jubilee during party elections slated for March 2020.

Ichung'wa said, Kieleweke, which is opposed to Ruto's 2020 presidential bid, is dead politically and they will ensure only leaders who support the DP get the key positions in the ruling party.

He further claimed the anti-Ruto group will not be able to marshal a strong campaign in its pursuit to take over Jubilee since the people who allegedly used to sponsor its activities across the country have since left.

"Kieleweke has no agenda for Kenyans and that is why they are dead politically. Their main agenda was to malign, blackmail and attack Ruto. However, they can't sustain their activities after their financiers pulled out,” Ichung'wa said.

However, former party vice-chairman David Murathe, who is allied to Kieleweke, has warned Ruto and his allies that it won't be easy for them to take over the President Uhuru Kenyatta-led outfit.

"Let them know and understand that the President will remain the party leader come rain or shine and if they have plans to contest that, let them bring it on. The earlier, the better," Murathe said.

While confirming the party will hold elections within the next three camps, Secretary-General Raphael Tuju downplayed competition between Tanga Tanga and Kieleweke saying they were not under pressure from anyone to conduct them.

"We will go through party elections in March. We will face it in different ways. It is not being imposed from outside, it is not statutory but we want to do it because we want to do it. We will do it some counties at a time," Tuju said on Sunday.
