For months, Mvurya has supported Deputy President William Ruto's Presidential ambitions, often attending several events before backing out.

Mr Mvurya snubbed Ruto's September trio to the coastal region, further raising questions about his commitment to deliver for the DP.

However, his confidants told Sunday Nation that Mvurya is keen to avoid controversies so that he can peacefully finish his term.

“The governor is working to cement his legacy and that can be done through assembling resources from the national government and not by politicking, which is something that the DP seems to have given priority,” said one of Mr Mvurya’s confidants.

Mr Mvurya’s communication director Daniel Nyassy could not deny or admit that the governor was avoiding the DP: “I cannot comment on that.”

A number of leaders allied to DP William Ruto have lately been dragged to court over alleged corruption scandals which have seen them charged.

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu is the latest to face charges and has since been barred from attending to his duties. He can't access his office.

Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa is also now being investigated over possible corruption charges, a move that perhaps now scares Ruto's team.

Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen has come out openly and accused state actors of being used to advance political objectives in the name of war against graft.

“There are state operatives who have turned State organs to be tools that they use for political gain. State agencies are now being used in the name of fighting corruption, but this fight is not being applied across the board,” he said.
