The Garissa Town MP, also a close ally of the DP, says that a plot is being hatched with an intention to bar the DP from contesting in the race, in a bid to kill his ambitions.

He has linked the said plan to some influential figures, the same ones he claims attempted to block Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta from vying in the 2013 general elections.

However, he says that the same way himself and others blocked attempts to have ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi run for the seat in 2013, instead of Uhuru they will ensure that Ruto vies.

"Katika serikali zote zilizotangulia, kuna watu walafi na wabinafsi ambao wanadhani wana mamlaka ya kuamua atakayeingia mamlakani. Ninawapa changamoto wakasome historia hasa ya 2013 wakati Musalia Mudavadi alipofanywa mgombeaji wetu wa urais kwa saa 48,” he told Taifa Leo in an interview on Sunday.

This translates to; "In all the previous governments there have been greedy people thinking they have the power to decide who will cling to power. I am challenging them to read the history especially the 2013 one about how Mudavadi was made our candidate for 48 hours."

He added that the said group of influential persons include top state officials, including members of the cabinet, who he said are channeling state find towards frustrating Ruto.

The vocal politician claimed that the plot is to instead let the ticket be held by one of the politicians who failed in the previous presidential races.

However, he expressed confidence that Uhuru will keep his initial promise to endorse Ruto while assuring the DP that they will see to it that he succeeds Uhuru as the fifth president.

“Walio kati yetu ambao ni watu wenye heshima zao, waadilifu na wanaomcha Mungu, tutasimama kidete na Naibu Rais hadi mwisho ili awe rais wa tano wa Kenya. Amehitimu kuongoza nchi hii licha ya jinsi wengine wanavyokusanya watu walioshindwa na kukataliwa katika chaguzi zilizopita,” he added.

This loosely translates to; "Those among us who have respect, disciplined and fear God will stand with the Deputy President to the end so that he makes it as the fifth president. He is qualified to lead the country despite the ongoing collection of rejects of previous polls."

Since his reelection in 2017, Uhuru has remained silent on keeping his promise to Ruto, calling for political calm instead.
