Makadara Member of Parliament George Aladwa has claimed that the ongoing closeness between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga will have a big impact in the nation's political direction beginning 2022.
Speaking on Saturday, the Nairobi County ODM Chair hinted that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), which has brought the two together, will result in a political formation that could carry the day in the 2022 general elections.
He added that as members of ODM, they now see the BBI as their next political alliance with Uhuru and Raila at the helm, urging others currently opposed to the union to come on board to avoid being left out when the time comes.
"BBI is what will offer guidance in 2022. Things have changed, it's the BBI that will decide. As ODM, we see BBI as our party henceforth. (Hii BBI ndio itatoa mwongozo 2022. Mambo imebadilika, BBI ndio itaamua. Sisi BBI ndio itakuwa chama chetu)," he said on Radio Jambo's 'Mazungumzo Waziwazi'.
Aladwa said that Uhuru also appears serious on his union with Raila, judging by how he has managed to tame some of Mt Kenya politicians who have been questioning the same.
He opined that since after his meeting with the Mt Kenya brigade at the Sagana Statehouse in Nyeri, the opposition and questioning have reduced, proof that he (Uhuru) is still in charge.
"After Sagana meeting those who have been making noise and airing questions have gone quiet (hata wakina Ichungwa, wale wamekuwa wakiuliza maswali na kupiga kelele wametuliza)," Aladwa noted.
Kimani Ichungwa, the Kikuyu lawmaker, has been among the leading anti-Raila crusaders who have been of the opinion that Raila is not sincere in his union with Uhuru.
