This is after allegations emerged that a section of senior government officials from the region were planning to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto ahead of 2022 general election.

Four Cabinet Secretaries; Sicily Kariuki (Health), Joe Mucheru (ICT), James Macharia (Transport) and Trade and Cooperatives' Peter Munya, have already been summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over the matter.

They all denied the claims and refused to record their statements, arguing they will only do so after the complainant (Ruto) gives his side of the story formally.

Following the development, former Mukurwe-ini MP Kabando Kabando has described the division in the government as "untenable", noting the only solution was to dissolve the Cabinet and form a transitional government.

Noting that even the opposition coalition NASA has also collapsed, the former Assistant Minister said there was a need for national reconciliation and asked leading politicians to put their differences aside and give dialogue a chance.

"Things fall apart (in) Jubilee. Things fell apart (in) NASA. Situation untenable. Reconciliation for national restoration necessary. Implement Truth, Justice and Reconciliation (TJRC) report. President dissolve Cabinet, install Transitional/Unity government. William Ruto and Raila Odinga: admit inclusive dialogue, referendum for rebirth," Kabando tweeted on Thursday.

Similar sentiments were echoed over the weekend by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, who asked Uhuru to dissolve the Cabinet, arguing it would be impossible to implement government programmes with a divided Executive.

“The Cabinet is the national face of Kenya. How will the President conduct Cabinet meetings amid divisions? The only permanent panacea is to disband the Cabinet,” Kuria said.

Others Mt Kenya leaders who have also asked the President to dissolve his Cabinet include Nyeri Senator Ephraim Maina and Laikipia Deputy Governor John Mwaniki.
